Huly Laser

Vertical shafts of light that pulse in width and brightness, standing in fog thick enough to catch them. Chromatic separation splits the edges and a fine grain sits over the whole thing, which is what keeps it looking filmed rather than rendered.

There are three beams rather than one, each with its own radius and skew, which is why the group never reads as a repeat. The fog is a system in its own right with eight controls of its own, down to how far it splits color at the edges, and it is the fog rather than the beams that decides whether the whole thing feels near or far.
